Sports Conditioning For Agility Handlers
Fitness for the dog sport handler is designed to give you all of the tools you need to get you out in front of your dog and turn you into an even better team than you are already!!
Dog sports place an incredible amount of physical demand on our bodies and whilst we all spend an huge amount of time perfecting our dogs through training, time should also be devoted to looking after ourselves too!
My courses and training are perfect for you if you compete in both Dog Agility and Flyball at any level....
Body Awareness/Proprioception
Become more 'tuned-in' to your body's sensations, movement and posture by improving coordination, balance and overall body control.
Balance & Core Stability
Very closely related, core exercises strengthen the muscles in your abdomen, back and pelvis which are essential for maintaining balance. A strong core provides a stable base for movement.
Muscular Strength
A crucial element and the base for all other fitness work. Strength is crucial for effective training and performance. For handlers it focuses on leg power, and upper body strength helping you to guide your dog safely and powerfully around the course. Crucial for helping to prevent injury.
Flexibility
Flexibility helps optimise your performance and assists with injury prevention. Good joint mobility helps with efficiency in running and will help enhance all of your turns and movements on course.
Running, Sprinting & Edurance
Focusing on drills that assist with both acceleration and deceleration and changes of direction. The faster you train your feet, the faster you will become and you will experience an increase and confidence in your own body ability.
Stops & Turns
Another crucial element for guiding your dog around a course at every grade. Improve your front, rear and blinds by training your stops and turns!
Footwork for Handling
Effective footwork, effective course running. Drills that improve, agility, balance, coordination and hugely beneficial for handlers. Both stand alone exercises and those that focus on specific handling techniques are trained through my programs.
Plyometrics
Plyometrics enhance speed, power and the explosiveness needed for quick movements and changes of direction
