Frequently Asked Questions
Why Hire a Personal Trainer?
What do PT's do?
Personal trainers work with you on a 1:2:1 basis. I can help you with your form and making sure that you are working your whole body safely by designing you an engaging program that will not only help you reach your body goals but keep you working hard too!
Accountability
By setting an appointment or a session with me each week, I will help you stay accountable with not only your training, but your nutrition as well. If you have not been seeing the results that you would like whilst training on your own, it may be time to ask for some help that will steer you in the right direction.
Educated Advice
My role is all about education. I will help you feel more confident with each exercise with coaching the correct form and how to use equipment to get the most out of your workouts. This will help you get back into the gym or workout from home in confidence that you can do it on your own!
I don't expect my clients to be with me forever. I do expect them to learn all that they need to know to be able to start training independently without the need for a PT!
Helping you get started
It can be really daunting to work out how to get started with so many options available to you. Do you sign up to a gym? If you do, what are the best exercises for me to do, how do I put a workout together? Do I look for a workout online? Sign up to a home programme? Should I be doing strength or cardio?
A PT will help take all of the guess work out of it for you by building you a programme that suits you and your body, your lifestyle and aligns with your goals. Not only that, if you are new to exercise, you will be guided through each exercise so that you can begin to feel confident in your ability and your body.
Programming for you
You may have a specific illness or injury or you may have a particular requirement for your training. Do you play a sport? I have a number of clients who competitively take part in football, Equestrian Cross Country and Dog Agility. Each sport has very specific needs when it comes to the skills, fitness levels and strengths required to allow my clients to be on top of their game. A Personal Trainer will design a programme specifically for you, be it as part of a return from injury, avoiding exercises that may not be suitable for you or as mentioned above, to support your sport or lifestyle.
Challenging & Varied
This is where the fun starts!
One of the biggest parts of my job is to make sure that your sessions are varied and challenging enough for you. You will never do the same workout twice and so never suffer the boredom that can sometimes be associated with a typical gym programme. Your training will also be very scalable. This means that as your fitness and strength improves, your training will too. In no time at all you will be lifting more and pushing harder.

There is no doubt that with hard work and the right attitude to it, you will be feeling fitter, stronger and a better version of you in no time at all!

Do I need to be 'fit' to join a class?
Absolutely not! One of my catchphrases is 'you do you' you can do as much or as little as you would like to and I give many variations to exercises so that you can pick the one that is right for you and your fitness and ability.
I have an injury, should I still come along?
The best thing to do in this instance is to drop me a message or give me a call to discuss this. Many injuries can be worked around and I can provide you with alternative exercises. In all cases, you should speak with your medical professional before attending if in any doubt whatsoever.
Should I eat before a class?
This really depends on the size of your meal ! If its a main meal, I would suggest leaving at least 60-90 minutes in-between your meal and the session. If its a light snack the 45-60 mins should be enough. It is perfectly ok to train on an empty stomach !
What should I bring with me?
All you need to bring will be yourself, some water and an exercise mat if you have one. Generally I have spares with me but you shouldn't rely on it!
What clothing should I wear?
A good pair of trainers is a must and you should feel comfortable in your clothing. It doesn't have to be the latest gym gear either, some leggings and a tshirt are perfectly fine. Be mindful of the weather and if very cold, please bring some layers (you can always take some off) During the summer, eye and skin protection is a must!
